US$ 72,373 to 80,245(with dependents)

(plus variable post adjustment, currently 51.9% of net salary) plus other UN benefits and pension fund

Background

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the focus of the political process to address Climate Change. The Convention secretariat is supporting the Convention and its Kyoto Protocol by a range of activities, including substantive and organizational support to meetings of the Parties.
The Sustainable Development Mechanisms (SDM) Programme supports the implementation of the Kyoto mechanisms, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint implementation (JI). The Standard Setting Unit is responsible for providing technical advice regarding setting of standards, including methodologies, methodological tools and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Manager of the Standard Setting Unit the incumbent will develop highly critical, conceptual, operational and innovative approaches towards organizational and work-flow issues related to additionality. In particular, the incumbent:

1. Monitors, analyses and reports on any additionality-related work performed by organisations and institutions beyond the CDM system. Advises on overall policy direction regarding the application of additionality standards. Ensures consistency in respective approaches.

2. Develops new additionality standards to increase not only the objectivity of additionality demonstration and assessment, but also their credibility levels, without which, would render the CDM Regulatory System prone to external criticism;

3. Works with external users to be able to evaluate, review and revise existing additionality-related standards through the enhancement of their objectivity, usability, and the broadening of their applicability;

4. Provides guidance and expert advice on issues related to the assessment of additionality within the UNFCCC Secretariat and enhances the understanding of the additionality-related standards by its external users;

Requirements

· Advanced university degree in economics, financial engineering, natural science, engineering, environmental , or a relevant discipline. A combination of relevant academic qualifications and extensive experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

· At least seven years of work experience in economical and or financial sector. Working experience in the area of CDM project development or assessment is an asset.

· Thorough understanding of the investment analysis, good knowledge of the benchmark approach and the penetration rate approach, knowledge of the additionality tool.

· Fluency in English with excellent drafting skills. Knowledge of another UN language an asset.
