Senior Analyst

CRISIS GROUP – MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA

The International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation, with some 130 staff members on five continents, working through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict. We are currently looking for a highly motivated and capable staff member who will be working as a Senior Analyst for our Middle East and North Africa team.

SENIOR ANALYST, IRAN

Role:
The successful candidate will conduct research on Iran and produce reports on security, conflict, political, governance, and social issues related to Iran, analysing long and short-term security challenges, and identifying ways of increasing the capacity and will of pertinent governments and other political actors to prevent conflict or bring it to a peaceful closure. The position will be based in the Gulf States.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct extensive research on Iran into prevailing security, political and social conditions;
• Provide analysis and advice on key security issues facing Iran, the region and the wider international community;
• Propose policy initiatives to relevant governmental and non-governmental actors to address and alleviate the underlying causes of tension and conflict;
• Prepare detailed reports and briefing papers setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations.

Requirements:
• Previous, extensive knowledge of politics and society in Iran and contacts with governmental and nongovernmental officials, media, and academia;
• Experience in foreign policy analysis and conflict prevention;
• 7+ years professional experience in government, academia, international organisations, NGOs or journalism;
• Excellent writing, editing and analytical skills and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations, and a record of having published analytical writing;
• Fluency in English and Persian required;
• PhD or Masters degree in international relations, political science, journalism, sociology or equivalent through experience;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, a strong capacity for effective teamwork, as well as the ability to work independently; and
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and often demanding environment.
