The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of East Anglia wishes to respond to the changing landscapes in the NHS and in Higher Education by appointing to this newly created post an entrepreneurial individual who can lead thinking on the development and education of the future health and social care workforce.

This is a major opportunity for an individual with entrepreneurial flair and well developed skills in networking and influencing, to develop within the Faculty in new and distinctive ways a range of activities that work across the cognate Schools, (Norwich Medical School, School of Nursing and Midwifery and School of Allied Health Professions). This will require an individual with unusual attributes and the appointee is likely to have experience of operating at a strategic level in an environment of similar size and complexity.

The postholder will have responsibility for developing strategy and operational plans in the following areas:

  • Horizon scanning for new educational needs and opportunities in the health and social care workforce (including international markets)
  • Leadership in the development of distance and e-learning
  • Developing and managing the Faculty portfolio of postgraduate taught programmes including the Faculty's CPD programme)
  • Promoting a new focus on employability of the Faculty's graduates

Infrastructure available to support these responsibilities includes new investment in e-learning; the services of a well-staffed learning and teaching office; the services of the university Careers Office supporting the employability agenda and of the International Office with a well resourced complement of international recruitment staff.

This post will not require the postholder to be submissable to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) but there will be ample opportunity for a postholder with a research/ knowledge transfer track record and ambitions to bid for project funding to develop and apply new knowledge gained from the activities undertaken above, and in this will receive the support of the Faculty's Research, Enterprise and Engagement Office.
