INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL FOR THE LAW OF THE SEA
TRIBUNAL INTERNATIONAL DU DROIT DE LA MER
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, an international court with its
seat in Hamburg, has the following vacancy:

French Translator/Reviser (P-4)

Functions: Under the overall direction of the Registrar and the supervision of the
Head of Linguistic Services, the main tasks of the incumbent include:

Translating legal texts, documents, publications and other texts of the Tribunal
and its Registry from English into French;

Editing and revising legal texts, publications, information materials and
verifying related references and quotations;

Carrying out terminological research and compilation of glossaries;
Performing any such tasks related to the linguistic services of the Tribunal that
may be necessitated by the work of the Tribunal.

Qualifications and experience: At least five years work experience in
translation, including experience performing revision functions in an international
organization such as international judicial bodies. French mother tongue and
excellent command of English, full computer literacy, familiarity with computer
tools for translators (TRADOS). Familiarity with terminology of the law of the sea,
international law and related areas would be an advantage. To have passed the
United Nations competitive examination for translators would be an asset.
Applications are welcome from members of staff of organizations or agencies
within the United Nations system, who could be assigned or seconded for a period
of two years

The Tribunal reserves the right to appoint a candidate at one level below the
advertised post.
