New Zealand Development Scholarships for Postgraduate Study

Applications are invited from Kenyan nationals to undertake postgraduate studies (for Postgraduate Diploma or Masters Degrees) at Universities in New Zealand commencing in January 2012.

The New Zealand Government provides New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) through the New Zealand Aid Programme within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Up to fourteen (14) scholarships are available to eligible African applicants and will cover air travel, full tuition fees, an establishment allowance, and a living allowance to cover day to day costs in New Zealand.

Applicants may also be entitled to return travel to their home country to see dependant family members under the Reunion Airfare Entitlement.

The priority fields of study available are:
  • agriculture
  • private sector development
  • rural livelihoods (including small and micro enterprise development) and
  • health and nutrition (particularly public health, primary health, HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases);
Application forms are available from participating New Zealand tertiary education institutions (contact details are found on the web address below).

Please complete two (2) application forms and attach copies of current curriculum vitae, notarised / certified copies of university certificates, transcripts and three (3) reference letters, two (2) from academic referees and one work related, together with each application.

All application forms must be completed in English and failure to do so will lead to automatic disqualification. All supporting documents must be translated into English by an accredited translator. A one-page summary in English of reasons for wishing to undertake postgraduate training in New Zealand and how the postgraduate training being sought will benefit your country must also be provided.

Applications are to be submitted on the New Scholarship Application Form to the New Zealand education institution of the applicant’s choice by the institution’s published application close-off date.

Applications received by each New Zealand education institution by the published close-off dates will be assessed based on the selection and eligibility criteria. The education institutions will forward complete eligible scholarship applications to the New Zealand High Commission in Pretoria for final assessment.

All candidates will be informed of the outcome of their application by October 2011.

Short listed candidates may be required to undergo a telephone interview.
