Regional Humanitarian Capacity Building Consultant (Oxfam GB) Oxfam Great Britain

Regional Humanitarian Capacity Building Consultant
£Competitive
12-month contract, New Delhi

This is a re-advertisement, previous applicants need not apply.

Oxfam’s been responding to humanitarian emergencies since 1942, so we’re a recognised leader in the field. But we can’t do it all ourselves. That’s why we share everything we’ve learned with our partners. And building on their capacity and making sure they can handle emergency situations, so will you.

The role
Based in New Delhi, you’ll work with our partners to guarantee they’re prepared for any eventuality on both regional and country levels. That means designing and carrying out emergency capacity gap assessments and providing expert recommendations for improvement. You’ll then create high-quality capacity building plans based on your findings, making sure each one factors in gender analysis and meets Oxfam International’s standards. We’ll also expect you to give in-country teams the support they need as they carry out simulations and various other capacity building activities. And when it comes to our own staff, you’ll liaise with teams across the region to develop emergency HR registers and funding strategies, plus play a role in implementing our new, unified approach to development and humanitarian work.

What we’re looking for
A proven capacity building leader, you’ll be a strategic thinker with a background in contingency planning and a sound knowledge of emergency preparedness. So you’ll know all about monitoring and evaluation methods, and be no stranger to coordinating large, diverse teams. In fact, with plenty of experience managing emergency responses in the field, you’ll be confident influencing others and working with partners in a complex, challenging environment. Ideally, you’ll have honed these abilities in a NGO environment and have a knowledge of the area along with South Asian language skills. You’ll certainly show a sensitivity to gender and an understanding of different cultures, programmes and management environments normally only found in people who have lived and worked internationally.

About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
