Senior Director Light Years IP
Light Years IP (LYIP), an international NGO dedicated to increasing export income for low income producers in the developing world through intellectual property (IP) business strategies, is recruiting a Senior Director to be based in the UK/London, East Africa/Nairobi or the USA/Washington DC (negotiable).
Background: Light Years IP offers expert analysis and advice on identifying potential products for IP Value Capture, as well as implementation strategies and assistance with market interventions using IP tools, such as patents, trademarks and licenses. The ownership of IP is secured in market countries through the existing legal frameworks of the developed world. Control of distribution captures income benefits for the producers.
For example, working with the Ethiopian government, coffee growers and exporters, LYIP helped them take control of their brands and distribution in retail markets. This was the largest factor in a $100 Million increase in export income. LYIP is currently working on a number of different projects to obtain similar results for stakeholders exporting from Africa and the Caribbean.
The Job: LYIP’s Senior Director will be an innovative, experienced senior executive and a key team member in developing new initiatives. S/he will work closely with LYIP’s CEO in strategic planning, as well as in the management of team members and associates.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 15-20 years of business experience, including in the developing world, especially Africa and the Caribbean. They should have a proven track record in IP business strategies and a demonstrated commitment to the mission of Light Years IP. Significant international travel will be required – around 20-25%.
