Due to Germany’s EU membership its educational sector is increasingly influenced by intergovernmental coordination at the European level. Reforms in the fields of education and vocational training are key to the success of EU Commission’s “Europe 2020” growth strategy for the coming decade. Against this backdrop, the Bertelsmann Stiftung is launching a new cross-program initiative which seeks to strengthen the EU focus of our educational project work, as well as to expand our international networks of partners and experts.

To assist us with this initiative at our Brussels office from October 1st, 2011, we are looking for a

Senior Expert in Internationalization and the Europe-wide Linking of Educational Efforts

This position at our Brussels office includes the following responsibilities:

  • Conceptual development of our educational work by identifying and reporting on relevant developments in educational policy in the EU institutions and on good practices in EU member states, EU accession and EFTA countries
  • Europe-wide scaling and targeted communication to the EU institutions of project results of our educational work
  • Systematic expansion and coordination of our international network of educational experts
  • Recruitment of international cooperation partners and fundraising for our educational work
  • Preparation of project proposals, comparative studies and policy papers on EU educational issues; supervision of publications
  • Preparing and conducting workshops, network meetings and conferences on European educational issues

Requirements

  • A university degree, preferably in social science, education or political science, demonstrating above-average achievement
  • Thorough knowledge of reform issues related to European educational policy and familiarity with the functions of the EU institutions
  • Several years of experience in international project work in the areas of education and vocational training (particularly in the context of cooperation with the European Commission)
  • Excellent knowledge of project management, negotiation and presentation techniques
  • Publishing experience in the field of education
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills Ability to take a results-oriented approach and act independently
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and cooperate with others
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, good command of German; good command of French desirable
