The Jewish Social Justice Roundtable is a newly emerging coalition of Jewish social justice organizations working together to establish a unified and powerful Jewish social justice movement. The Roundtable was first convened in 2009, and is the result of discussions of Jewish social justice leaders over the past 15 years. The Roundtable is continuing and expanding its work by convening an even broader range of partner organizations, and increasing the capacity of those organizations to take on shared campaigns through trainings, common messaging and collaborative working groups. The Roundtable is committed to advancing its vision that social justice, animated by Jewish tradition and values, will become a core expression of Jewish life.
Position Overview:
Jewish Social Justice Roundtable is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated professional to serve in the newly created position of Director. With primary responsibility for overseeing and facilitating all of the work of this growing coalition, the Director will bring together leaders from the diverse partner organizations, set ambitious goals in partnership with those leaders, and manage the work of the coalition to reach those goals. This is a unique opportunity to impact a growing movement in partnership with national leaders, at a moment where there is unprecedented momentum towards establishing a concrete and powerful unified Jewish social justice movement.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and oversee the work of the Roundtable by collaboratively setting ambitious goals for partner organizations, and supporting them in their work toward those goals
- Implement the goals and priorities set out by the Roundtable for growth and impact ensuring that the coalition is moving towards the vision set out, and realigning and adjusting priorities as needed
- Build relationships across the coalition, and create a workable infrastructure that allows for communities of practice and opportunities for partner organizations and leaders to interact on shared campaigns, and through working groups focused on specific priorities
- Oversee the creation of a structure and defined process for employing new member organizations into the Roundtable
- In partnership with external vendors, work to create a more unified and consistent communications strategy to convey the vision of JSJR and ensure a cohesive message and brand is being utilized by all members of the coalition
- Hire and oversee the work of an additional staff person to be focused on administrative support for the coalition
Qualifications
- Significant professional experience working on social justice issues at the management level, including experience with and understanding of issue or electoral campaigns
- Superior project or program management skills, and proven ability to juggle multiple projects and competing priorities
- Demonstrated success as a facilitative leader, establishing alignment among stakeholders, setting goals for those stakeholders, and holding them accountable to those goals
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to craft a message and convey the importance of that message to a targeted audience
- Flexibility and comfort working in a start-up environment
- Demonstrated commitment to the Jewish social justice movement
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred
