Background / General description: | The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is a global investor and advisor committed to promoting projects in its developing member countries that are economically beneficial, financially and commercially sound, and environmentally and socially sustainable. IFC finances private sector investments, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses in the developing world. IFC is seeking to recruit an Investment Officer (or Senior Investment Officer) for its Global Water and Waste Group (the “Water Group”). Water is vital for development and a strategic priority for IFC, and the Group is responsible for growing IFC s global water and waste business, in collaboration with IFC s Regional Departments. In addition, the Water Group is responsible for IFC s global water strategy, maintaining, fostering and sharing IFC s knowledge and market intelligence of the water and waste sectors, executing water projects and investments with global clients, and supporting regional departments in executing water projects with local clients. IFC provides support to projects and through provision of senior debt, quasi-equity and equity instruments. The Investment Officer / Senior Investment Officer will work closely with the IFC s Global Water Head and the rest of the team, and will be responsible for developing client relationships and transaction opportunities in the water, sanitation and waste sectors. He or she will also be responsible for providing support to regional departments in their business development and deal execution activities in these sectors. The position will be based in Washington, with frequent travel required. | Duties and Accountabilities: | Responsibilities of the Investment Officer / Senior Investment Officer will include, but will not be limited to: Lead business development with global clients in the water & waste sectors, and supporting business development with regional/local clients in partnership with the Regional Departments; Participating, as a Transaction Leader, in processing investments in the water & waste sectors globally; Lead the transaction teams for investment in the water & waste sectors, piloting all aspects of IFC s project processing cycle from project development to disbursement; Work closely with IFC s environmental and social, insurance, technical, legal and treasury staff to evaluate and process projects; Lead investment negotiations; Mentoring and advising regional teams on structuring of transactions in the water & waste sectors; Support further development and sharing of IFC s knowledge base in the sector. | Selection Criteria: | MBA finance or equivalent degree from an internationally recognized institution, and a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an investment banking, private equity, project developer or development finance institution; Good knowledge of the water, sanitation and / or waste sector(s) and its main players, particularly in developing countries; Significant investment transaction experience (including project and corporate finance, as well as equity) in the water sector and/or other infrastructure sectors; Proven track-record in business development, including developing and maintaining strategic client relationships; Strong analytical skills and sound business judgment; Excellent communications skills; Team player & ability to work across-border and in multi-cultural environments; Results oriented – Ability to deliver high quality work in a timely manner.
