J/P HRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to help lift the nation of Haiti out of the rubble and give the Haitian people a better life, is seeking experienced professionals for several exciting opportunities as part of its response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
The successful candidate must be available immediately to start on October 24, 2011 and will be a certified translator with at least 3 years’ experience in the field and particularly in Haiti. French, English and Creole proficiency is required. He or she will have among others duties to accomplish these tasks: • reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language (French or English), ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained; • translating different types of material, such as news, contracts, technical reports, financial reports, memo of understanding, • using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used; • using appropriate software for presentation and delivery; • researching legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation; • liaising with concerned departments to discuss any unclear points; • proofreading and editing final translated versions; • providing concerned departments with a grammatically correct, well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document; • prioritizing work to meet deadlines; • Any other tasks related to the position.
