Yemen Consultancy - Capacity Building Coordinator

Working with Progressio’s PLNGOs Network
Based in Aden, Republic of Yemen Three-month consultancy, with the possibility of a further three-month extension

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to speak and write fluent English and Arabic.

This consultancy offers an exciting opportunity to build on previous work and continue strengthening the work of various Yemeni non-governmental organisations and civil society groups. Working specifically with Progressio network local non-governmental organisations (LNGOs) in Aden, you will provide training and capacity building support in organisational development and advocacy and assist them to coordinate and network with a range of stakeholders.

The successful candidate should have a degree level qualification or equivalent diploma in a relevant discipline, and education/ training in specific aspects of community development.

You should have a minimum of three years’ work experience with LNGOs in an advisory/ support capacity, preferably in Yemen and/ or in the region. As well as proven knowledge/experience of organisational development and capacity building within the NGO/ Community Based Organisation (CBO) sector; in training/ facilitation methodologies and direct training ability; in strengthening the interaction between government and civil society within the framework of civic participation: of advocacy, networking and of liaising with a range of different organisations at a policy level, and of working in a resource poor environment.

The ability to transfer skills and knowledge through formal or informal training and skill-sharing; skills in strategic planning and participatory monitoring methods; knowledge/ understanding of one or more areas of particular focus (human rights, rights based approaches, women’s leadership, HIV and AIDS), and good command of English and Arabic, both spoken and written are essential. You should also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate and work with a wide range of people in a participatory, respectful, collaborative manner, and to enhance effective work relationships; good team building skills and consensus led approach to work; flexibility, problem solving skills and ability to adapt to a changing and resource poor environment, to approach work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude, and excellent organisational and time management skills, with ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and meet deadlines.

Demonstrated commitment to gender awareness; willingness to undertake road travel in Yemen and the right to work in Yemen are also essential.
