Dalhousie University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Professions, with the appointment to be effective July 2012.

The School of Nursing offers a broad range of programs including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Halifax and Yarmouth sites), Nurse Practitioner Programs in adult, neonatal and family all-ages specialties, a Master of Nursing Program (thesis, non-thesis and nurse practitioner options), a joint Master of Nursing and Health Administration Program and a PhD (Nursing) program focusing on the impacts of nursing practices on health outcomes at the individual, community and population levels. Several programs are offered on-site and through distance learning technology and all are congruent with a philosophy of adult education. In addition, the School of Nursing, in collaboration with Nunavut Arctic College, offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Arctic Nursing). Located in the beautiful harbour city of Halifax, Dalhousie University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. It is a research intensive university with strong research programs in diverse disciplines including health professions, medicine, law and business and is affiliated with many of Atlantic Canada's major hospitals and community agencies.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in nursing or a related discipline and be eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia. The candidate will possess expertise in leadership and management in nursing combined with evidence of teaching achievement, a history of externally funded research, and a substantial contribution to nursing through demonstrated scholarship that advances the discipline of nursing. Experience in a previous academic appointment in a School/Faculty of Nursing with a graduate education program is desirable, as is interest in and experience with developing interprofessional collaboration and interdisciplinary research initiatives. Previous success in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders internal and external to the University is essential.

Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Health Professions, the Director provides academic and professional leadership and is responsible for administrative and financial matters pertaining to the School. The associated academic appointment will be tenured, at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications.
