6 Years(At least six years prior relevant experience on providing GIS and Mapping services (ArcGIS 9.3 and other mapping application) for humanitarian coordination. Experience in information management or related field would be an asset, some experience in the design and successful implementation of new processes and systems would be an asset. Experience in the application of information management in humanitarian response is desirable. Sound understanding of HTML, CSS, XML and other basic syntax. Microsoft Office (advance user certification of MS Access, MS Excel and MS Word desirable) and Lotus)

Job Description

Background:

In order to assist in addressing the humanitarian challenges being faced by Pakistani civilians especially after the recent floods in the country, OCHA is strengthening its presence in Pakistan. In order to provide support to UN agencies, NGOs, donors and other humanitarian organizations working in Pakistan. One of OCHA's strategic priorities will be to support the Humanitarian Coordinator in the coordination of humanitarian affairs for timely and adequate delivery of humanitarian assistance and greater protection to the populations in Pakistan affected by recent flooding in the country, military operations on the border with Afghanistan and possible natural disaster. As such, collation and dissemination of information and field-level coordination will be catalysts in improving the response to humanitarian needs. In this context, OCHA will intensify Information management, resource-mobilization and advocacy efforts.

Job Description:

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the IMO-GIS in Islamabad, the National GIS Associate will be responsible for the following:

· Prepare and keep up to date a set of Reference Maps of Pakistan and support the IMO in developing GIS products for stakeholders on data provided on timely fashion.

· Support to collect, clean, consolidate and document (metadata) relevant spatial and attribute datasets in line with OCHA standards.

· Support on standardization of GIS product and services according OCHA global standards

· Provide cartographic services to OCHA and the Humanitarian partners utilizing OCHA standardized GIS software and map production templates.

· Assist in enabling easy and regular updating of GIS products for distribution

· Keep up to date the inventory of maps and shape files depository as well as support provided to humanitarian community

· Upload the GIS products/dataset to pakresponse and other website.

· Support in digitization and updating of shape files and other GIS datasets

· Share, learn and explore GIS techniques, including the application of the satellite images.

· Participate in forums such as the Country/Province Level Information Management (CLIM) Network and the GIS working group to collaborate and share information related to geographic information standards and baseline data.

· Perform other duties, as assigned by senior staff member of OCHA to contribute to OCHA’s overall objectives

Required Skills
