DFID Nepal is seeking to fill the following position inviting applications from interested and experienced Nepalese candidatesThe DFID office in Nepal now requires an experienced Infrastructure Adviser to work as part of DFID Nepal’s Inclusive Wealth Creation Team. In particular the post holder will lead DFID’s work on infrastructure, identified as a key barrier to economic growth and poverty reduction, in DFID-Nepal’s Operational Plan 2011-2014. In addition the post holder will contribute to DFID’s disaster resilience work. This is a new area of focus for DFID Nepal and the post-holder will manage a potential DFID intervention in the resilience of hospital infrastructure, working with GoN and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Main Duties

  • Lead on all of DFID Infrastructure policy and programme work, in particular DFID’s current and future rural infrastructure programmes
  • Provide infrastructure advice on disaster risk and climate resilience programmes
  • Provide inputs into wider DFID policies and programmes in infrastructure
  • Work closely with government and other development agencies to improve delivery in the infrastructure sectors, especially for women, excluded groups and the poor
  • Ensure infrastructure investments contribute effectively to economic growth and private sector development

Required qualifications/ skills:

  • The post holder will have a degree in a science and/or infrastructure related field, and a second degree (Masters or Doctorate) in an infrastructure relevant sector.
  • In cases where applicants have no relevant second degree, substantive relevant experience or professional qualifications will be considered.
  • At least ten years working experience in areas directly related to the job description.
  • Experience of working on private sector, climate change and disaster resilience issues related to infrastructure will be important.
  • Experience of working with the Government of Nepal and with Development agencies
  • Proven ability to work at strategic policy and field implementation levels.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills and ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds are essential.
