Introduction

The U.S. Embassy in Durban is seeking individuals for the temporary position of Public Affairs Assistant in the Public Affairs Section (PAS). The position is full-time and closes January 9, 2011.

Minimum Requirements

NOTE: ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT APPLICANTS WHO ARE NOT SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR PERMANENT RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

Qualifications Required: NOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM. Items 1- 6 are ALL REQUIRED

1.
Three years tertiary diploma in administration is required.
2. At least two years of secretarial and administrative or related work experience is required.
3. English level IV (Fluent) and host country language proficiency by level II, III reading/writing/speaking.
4. Basic knowledge of U.S. culture and current events are required.
5. Working understanding of media, cultural, and educational entities in Kwa-Zulu Natal (and South Africa) are required.
6. Must have technical skills: typing/word processing, computer/Internet, desktop publishing, basic AV/Digital equipment.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:

The incumbent will supports implementation of Public Affairs Section’s programs, including maintenance of web-based applications for reporting and planning purposes. The incumbent will also support Information Resource Center, Educational Advising, Media Outreach, and Cultural and Exchange activities. Incumbent works in close collaboration with Public Affairs Section team to further mission strategic resource goals.
