Overview:

General Motors is seeking network engineering specialists for the Information Technology department of General Motors. Candidate will work on a variety of projects design network infrastructure and security solutions to support a variety of projects for complex engineering environments, manufacturing/plant floor and other areas of GM. Candidate must be up for the challenge and be prepared to work collaboratively with the various GM organizations to implement networks that will that enable GM's productivity and operations continuous improvement.

Summary Role Description:

Senior Cisco Architect / Network Engineer to work on network designs and the support of GM's LAN and system infrastructure. The position includes support for the network infrastructure at GM's Global Manufacturing Plants, Engineering Tech Centers, and other facilities. This position requires a high-degree of experience and certification levels across a broad array of technologies including routing/switching, security, and VoIP. The position will be located in Warren Michigan at the GM Tech Center.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

- Evaluate / recommend suitable technologies for adaption into existing template
- Leads or makes the recommendation for improvements and the development of technical standards.
- Leads a team of highly skilled network engineers and is responsible for daily assignments and overall deliverables.
- Design, staging, configuration, implementation, and support for LAN routing and switching hardware installations
- Provide level 3 support for operational issues and/or problems
- Tests and validates new hardware, software, and procedures for existing technologies, as well as, any newly developed technologies
- Demonstrates specialized knowledge in and working knowledge of network technologies including Spanning Tree, BGP, MPLS, OSPF, ISIS and emerging technologies.
- Designs highly complex networks. Builds simulated networks in test labs to validate design or resolve highly complex problems and compatibility issues.
- Plans and executes highly complex Network Upgrade and Network Migration activity.
- Troubleshoots and resolve highly complex network problems across a broad range of technologies. Acts as a focal point for highly complex network problem resolution.
- Expert level internetworking troubleshooting in a large-scale network environment.
- Background in wireless MAC and higher layer design and analysis. Must be familiar with TDMA, CDMA, CSMA, OFDM, and OFDMA. Demonstrated knowledge of wireless network standards: cdma2000, W-CDMA, Bluetooth, ZigBee, GPRS/EDGE, WLAN, WiMAX, and LTE.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of IPv4 and IPV6
- Demonstrate Knowledge in Video Technology's including PIM, IGMP V2, V3, and SSM Mappings. Also operate a complex multicast network, including IP video in Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 formats.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, required. Professional level certification or equivalent work experiences a plus.

Successful candidate will have 15+ years' of direct network experience including:

- Thorough understanding and knowledge of

- Cisco Systems (Enterprise switches and routers)

- Cisco RF Wireless LAN

- Cisco Voice Products

- Protocols: TCP/IP

- Cisco routers and Switches (6500, 3750, 2960), ASA'S and Cisco Access Points

- Networking, Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, PPP, MPLS

- Infrastructure and network Services including but not exclusively; DNS/DHCP. NTP, Authentication, Active Directory, LDAP, RADIA,

- Knowledge and understanding of Java programming languages.

- Management or supervisory experience

Additionally:

- Exceptional work ethic and the ability to multi-task with limited supervision

- One or more certifications strongly desired: MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CNE

- Ability to reason and think logically, apply judgment, implement solutions, and resolve conflicts

- Strong attention to detail

- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and with written documentation

- Proven Leadership, and is capable of taking charge in outage situations

Experience:

- A minimum of 15+ year's experience with network design, and/or operational support.
- Previous experience managing a technical team responsible delivering network solutions or operations, strongly desired.
- Previous hands-on implementation and configuration of; routers, switches, Wireless AP's and clients, firewalls and VOIP solutions.
- Previous experience designing and implementing physical and logical networks for large scale enterprise network infrastructure installation or deployment projects.
- Experience designing and supporting networks in a manufacturing environment or large campus environment.
- Automotive / Manufacturing systems or network experience strongly desirable.
