Free Press Unlimited is looking for a team leader for our team Arab World - East Europe - Caucasus (1,0 FTE)

Objective of the position

  • To implement and manage project activities in the fields of journalism, education and sustainable media development;
  • To create high impact results for the development of independent journalism and freedom of expression;

Core Activities

  • To develop, guide and help implement, evaluate and adjust project activities in the field of journalism, journalism education as well as sustainable media development in line with standing policies of Free Press Unlimited and its partner organisations and donors;
  • Initiates, coordinates, guides and oversees the planning and execution of multiple projects and reports on them to the director of policy & programmes and the management team;
  • Acquires new project activities and negotiates with donors, business partners and partner organisations in the Netherlands and abroad, under the general guidance of the board of directors;
  • Maintains overview of quality and financial standards, provides for adequate staff planning and recruitment under the general guidance of the director of operations;Is responsible for narrative and financial reporting to donors and business partners and coordinates the necessary internal and external evaluations;
  • Advises the director of policy & programmes on strategy and policy in the fields of journalism, education and sustainable development based on a broad knowledge of trends and developments in journalism, politics and the developmental context;
  • Promotes a positive image and represents the organisation; contributes to national and international for a and discussions in the fields of journalism, education and sustainable media development;
  • Is able to coach his team and motivates, stimulates and gives functional and necessary feed back to team members.

Education

  • Relevant master’s or bachelor’s degree with extended work experience.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership position;
  • Knowledge of and demonstrable experience in the fields of journalism, education and sustainable media development;
  • Excellent overview of developments in the field of new media, e-media and ICT/Mobile; affinity with innovative project design in the fields of e-media and ICT applications is a must;
  • Experience working in developmental contexts;
  • A thorough understanding of complex project cycles and insight and demonstrable experience in fundraising and project management;
  • Experience working in an international environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and networking skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal command of the English language. A second modern language such as French, Arabic or Russian would be an asset and command of the Dutch language is recommended.

Team, Salary and location

You will work under the guidance of the director of policy & programmes and you're a member of the management team. You will manage a team of four programme coordinators and a varying number (depending on the project portfolio) of between 10 and 15 flexible staff members.

Salary: between 47.000 and 70.000 Euro a year.

Free Press Unlimited's office is based in Hilversum.
