Applies general engineering skills to solve common and complex business issues within established guidelines and recommend appropriate alternatives. Works on issues/projects of diverse complexity and scope related to print/image quality in thermal inkjet writing system. Exercises independent judgment within generally defined policies and practices to identify and select a solution. May act as a team or project leader providing direction to team activities and facilitates information validation and team decision-making process. Ability to handle most unique situations. May seek advice in order to make decisions on complex business issues.
Responsibilities
  • Specific responsibilities involved in this position are:
  • Assist manufacturing partners in troubleshooting and resolving complex manufacturing issues in mechanical design and interaction with print cartridge performance.
  • Understand the physics of drop ejection in a thermal ink jet system and how it relates dot on paper.
  • Able to create and run design experiments using Design of Experiment methodology to understand contributions of main input variables and interactions of input variables to the desired image quality and printhead life.
  • Write clear and concise procedures to operators/technicians to complete experimental designs or prove hypothesis.
  • Work with firmware engineers to create a procedure to diagnose the health of ink jet print cartridges at the manufacturing site.
  • Familiarity with and ability to implement if necessary manufacturing process and quality improvement tools such as process capability, process control, control charts, run charts, cycle time improvements, Gauge R&R, etc.
  • Documentation of processes and test procedure to solve issues in the manufacture of the printing system.
  • Ensure Writing Systems and Image Quality tools maintain scheduled calibrations and verifications.
  • Have good organization, observation, and communication skills. Be the "eyes and ears" on the manufacturing line to represent the operations, design & product engineering teams located in a different region. Have the judgment to identify and prioritize manufacturing issues.
  • Be able to travel to various sites and run development trials.

Qualifications

  • 5 years minimum experience
  • Typically a BA, Masters, or PhD in chemical or mechanical engineering with an emphasis on process and design.
  • Prior experience in Quality & System Integration .
Knowledge and Skills
  • Using ProEngineer or other 3D CAD software as a mechanical design tool.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong understanding and experience in electronics packaging.
  • Designing sheet metal and plastic parts and associated production tooling and processes
  • Using CFD and thermal mockups to validate thermal solution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels
