This role supports the Restructuring & Insolvency (R & I) team
within the Finance practice. Working with the R&I Business
Development Manager, the successful role holder will provide high
quality, proactive business development (BD) support to the partners and
associates to assist them successfully grow their business and
relationships with clients. The role-holder will build an understanding
of R&I business objectives, practices and products and provide BD,
marketing and research services to internal clients in this team. The
role will require extensive use of the firm’s marketing information
systems.
- Research and analysis: undertaking
internal/external research and analysis (either directly or via
specialist internal/external sources) on clients, targets, markets,
competitors, rankings and helping identify key existing clients and
targets for new business. This will include responding proactively to
requests for information and reports and interpreting the relevant
trends and markets.
- Pitching: researching, drafting and
producing pitch proposals and tailored capability statements as well as
providing input (e.g. relevant experience lists) to lawyers and other
members of the MBD team around the network on their pitches. Liaising
with lawyers to ensure profiles for CVs are updated on a regular basis.
Promoting best practice in fee earner production of pitches.
- Business planning: providing high level
support in business planning, development of individual product business
plans. Identifying trends within the firm's client base and work with
Partners to capitalise on opportunities. Conducting regular client
reviews and reporting on results. Ensuring all findings are incorporated
into client plans and the practice groups overall business plan.
o Opportunity spotting/current awareness: regularly
monitoring press and rumours (other external sources) and feeding
intelligence on opportunities in the market to relevant partners/fee
earners/relevant MBD staff.
- Communications: assisting in developing,
managing and implementing a marketing communications programme that
supports the communication of the brand vision for the practice areas,
as well as the strategic aims. This should incorporate PR, seminars,
events, sponsorship, the production of appropriate marketing collateral,
improvement of the firm's website, other e-marketing opportunities such
as social media, direct mail, client alerts and newsletters.
Maintaining mailing lists and updating as necessary, using the firm’s
contact management system. Planning and initiating
emails/briefings/articles on hot topics for promotional purposes,
working closely with the Practice group’s Knowledge Management team.
o Client guides/newsletters/brochures/practice group contact cards:
maintaining an up-to-date suite of brochures and co-ordinating
drafting, proofing and production of marketing collateral. Overseeing
the print production process and liaising with the internal publications
team and professional support lawyers as appropriate.
o Awards/directory submissions: Drafting entries for relevant industry directories, publications and awards.
o Website/WIKI: Updating and amending the relevant
sections of the firm’s website and practice wikis, liaising with the
website team as appropriate. Being actively involved in the development
of the Finance intranet/wiki sites and ensuring business development
information on the site is up-to-date.
- Deal collection/experience lists:
Capturing deal information, verifying descriptions and supporting
information with relevant partners/associates, and recording onto the
relevant experience databases. Preparation and maintenance and
management of experience lists ensuring the lists are up to date.
- Client relationship management: supporting
the Valued Partner Programme. Assisting with the management of client
relationships, managing and updating relevant client wikis, producing
bespoke materials and internal reports, monitoring client developments,
with a view to providing lead CRM support on selected key client
accounts.
- PR: assisting in the drafting of press
releases, and assisting with organisation of press interviews, or
responding to press enquiries (liaising with the central PR team).
- Budgeting: assisting the BDM in managing the production of the annual marketing budgets. Monitoring costs against budget regularly.

Marketing campaigns: supporting product
marketing campaigns, working with partners and relevant sector BDMs to
devise new product and marketing initiatives appropriate to the practice
group.

Supporting the network: providing high level
support to the network as well as actively engaging with other BDMs
around the network for support where activities should not be lead out
of London.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with
confidence and ability to deal with partners, senior lawyers and staff
at all levels
- Proven organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and manage conflicting priorities
- Ability to take initiatives and challenge status quo
- Ability to handle several projects at one time and to prioritise workload

Essential
- Degree educated or equivalent
- Excellent systems and database skills including experience of windows-based packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint

- Experience of working in a legal or professional services firm
- Experience of working in an international business
- Experience of working in research
- Relevant business/marketing qualification
- Experience of the financial institutions sector
