Working closely with fee earners, the Senior Business Development
Manager Dispute Resolution London and a Business Development Executive
to be responsible for driving and implementing all activities relating
to business development, marketing and communications in the Commercial
Disputes and International Arbitration Groups.
Business Development and Marketing Planning·
- Designing and developing a detailed business development and
marketing plan, and actively supporting the Teams in its implementation.
- Regularly reviewing partner requirements and priorities, and formulating a budget to support implementation of the plans.
- Prompting partners and other fee-earners to achieve results, and regularly monitoring progress against the plans.
Targets/client development
- Supporting a focused approach to development or extension of
client relationships, including production/monitoring of client action
plans and research (either directly or via specialist resources) on
target clients.
- Designing and implementing new business initiatives alongside
the Campaigns team and Practice Development Lawyers (including thought
leadership, events, client briefings/seminars and training programmes,
etc).
- Supporting the key client accounts by acting as client relationship manager for 2 key accounts.
- Supporting the Global Investigations group (a rapidly developing
area of our practice) in targeting clients and building strong
relationships with Heads of Compliance.
- Establishing client contacts (including BD equivalents) to identify opportunities and market trends to win new business.
- Supporting and accompanying partners on key client relationship reviews and new business meetings.
- Liaising and exchanging information with other practice, sector
groups or offices targeting the same clients and following up on the
cross-selling opportunities.
- Pitching: providing input to major pitches (e.g. key panel or
firm wide pitches) in line with partner requirements and with active
involvement of the relevant Sector Group BDM; and drafting CDG and IAG
team led pitches and credentials statements in line with partner
requirements.
- Tracking and analysing relevant market trends including regular
review of any competitive data available and of the Team’s positioning
and achievements versus its competitors.
- Delegating BD information and research tasks to the CDG/IAG Business Development Executive or The Knowledge Centre.
Communications
- Ensuring the Teams are recognised for acting on the most
significant disputes through select processes (including legal
directories and awards submissions).
- Regularly reviewing and making recommendations as to the teams’ current and planned profile-raising activities.
- Identifying and supporting key branding opportunities associated with the products.
- Ensuring all related marketing collateral best supports the teams’ legal service offerings.
- Liaising with the PR team in order to respond to select media opportunities to promote the Team’s capabilities.
Management
- Regular BD prioritisation planning with relevant Team partners and Senior Business Development Manager.
- Provide mentoring support and guidance to BD Executive’s professional development and line management on relevant tasks.
- Responsible for performance review and development plans of relevant Business Development Executive.
Team relationships
- Building a close working relationship with the Dispute Resolution MBD team in London and internationally.
- Building a close working relationship with other members of the MBD teams in London and internationally.
- Building close liaison relationships with BDMs for specific
sector groups or other practice groups in London in order to maximise
cross-sell opportunities.
- Degree educated or equivalent – essential.
- CIM qualified – desirable. ·
- Experience of the business areas - helpful but not essential
- Business development or relevant legal experience in an
international business-to-business environment (ideally FT 500
corporate, major consultancy, professional services firm, or a bank).
- Proven experience as a relationship management and winning
new business (either active involvement or supporting others to do it,
i.e. in a way which is a relevant to this context selling services and
building propositions around products/services).
- Proven track record of delivering against objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Project management skills; capable of multi-tasking -very strong.
