Communication Specialist ICARDA Amman, Jordan

Main purpose of the position
ICARDA is looking for a talented and enthusiastic communication professionals to be a member of its international communication.
 
As a senior member of the ICARDA communications team, you will be a key player in the delivery of the communication strategy for ICARDA. You will write and edit key ICARDA strategic communication products, design and implement communication actions and campaigns, provide communication services to ICARDA research programs in all offices.

The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international autonomous, non-profit, research center based in Aleppo, Syria, supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). We are committed to the improvement of livelihoods of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating poverty through agricultural research, and the equitable use and conservation of natural resources. Main responsibilities
·         Serve as editor of the ICARDA website and manage the development of web content (30%)
·         Create and write key publications and original information about ICARDA and derived from ICARDA’s science program – including Caravan Magazine, Newsletters, and Annual Report (40%)
·         Develop and implement communications plans for ICARDA research programs, providing advice to program leaders, and as needed, manage project leaders and communication coordinators or external partners to deliver these activities. (30%)
 
Education, qualifications and experience
·         University Degree in journalism, writing, science and policy communication or a degree in a scientific or agricultural field with excellent writing skills and solid communication experience. Excellent writing and synthesis skills. Minimum 8 years of professional experience in a position of responsibility as a communication coordinator or writer in a research or policy/advocacy organization, with proven experience of synthesizing and ‘translating’ complex concepts into simple and effective messages.
·         Demonstrated experience in the creation of a variety of targeted publications and information (print and web based).
·         Editing and rewriting experience.
·         Talent of writing for different types of audiences and different publication types, including marketing, policy, technical, web formats, etc.
·         Experience and knowledge of social media
·         The ability to manage a network of writers (internal or external) to brief them and manage the quality of their work.
 
Terms of appointment, salary and benefits
This is an Internationally Recruited Position (Internationally Recruited Staff).
The initial contract will be for 3 years, of which the first year will be probationary period. Subsequent employment is decided based on the merit and productivity of the staff member, and continued need for the position. For more details on benefits: Terms of Appointment P Level
