Field Construction Manager

SLAC Facilities Engineering and Construction group is seeking a Field Construction Manager (FCM).  The position will report to the Facilities Construction Manager (CM) to manage various facilities construction and installation projects. The Field Construction Manager is responsible for technical compliance and safety oversight of complex high risk construction projects. Additionally, he/she is responsible to assure Work Planning and Control and coordinate with Laboratory stakeholders and Facilities support.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Provide daily inspection reports and maintain up-to-date files of all construction documents including JSA’s, permits, etc.
  • Keep Project Manager (PM) and Construction Manager  (CM) apprised of project’s progress, status, quality, and schedule. 
  • Notify PM and CM of all code required modifications or clarifications. 
  • Document and report all subcontractor or sub-tier contractors deficiencies to PM and CM.
  • Witness and maintain up-to-date files of all special inspections and submit copies of same to PM, CM and ES&H. 
  • Submit copies of all construction inspection reports as required by BIO (Building Inspection Office). 
  • Meet daily with subcontractor’s & sub-tier contractor’s representatives, and their workers to review current Job Safety Analyses (JSA), specific to the scope of work being performed.
  • As the project’s scope of work changes, ensure that potential new hazards are identified, evaluated, mitigating controls are implemented, and work is authorized and released in accordance with approved Work Planning & Control processes prior to commencing work activity.
  • Attend and participate in weekly project meetings, reporting on current and projected coordination, schedule or quality issues.
  
Qualifications:• BS degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field with minimum 5 years relevant experience in Construction Management.
• Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend construction documents, including specifications and contract drawings.
• Working knowledge of testing, special inspection, permitting, RFI, submittals, change order, and scheduling policies and procedures associated with construction contracts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present daily construction reports and monthly project summary reports.
• Competency in computer operation including Primavera Construction Manager and P6, Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Project Schedule, and Outlook.
• Position requires a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Desired Skills:• OSHA 30 Hour, OSHA training in Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation Safety, and Respiratory Protection is desired.
• Demonstrated experience in facilities construction and inspection is desired.
• Experience in heavy civil or tunneling construction is desirable
