Part-time Grants Administration and Accounting Manager
The Natural Resource Charter (NRC) is an international initiative, and registered UK charity, that supports resource rich governments and societies in the management of extractive resources. The Charter provides a comprehensive conceptual framework, providing guidance along the whole chain of decisions that policymakers face, from how to get a good deal through to how to effectively manage the revenues.
The Natural Resource Charter is a new organisation in the process of establishing itself within the UK and as such seeks a new employee to lead on the grants and finance administration. This is a part-time position (3- 4 days a week.)
A) Accounting in accordance with finance procedures:
• Set up and administer payroll system for new organisation
• Prepare cheques/payment orders and ensure that they are properly delivered for signature and approval.
• Record all transactions, on manual/computer systems as appropriate.
• Process expenses and file supporting income and expenditure documents
• Maintain manual/computer cash book
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliation and agree with cash book
• Prepare monthly budget summaries of accounts
• Keep a record of fixed assets
• Prepare end of year accounts
• Liaise with auditors
• Monitor NRC cash flow and take action to ensure it has a positive balance
B) Grants Management
• Track program expenditure from multiple grants
• Provide regular income and expenditure updates to the Board and the Secretariat
• Assist secretariat staff in budget preparation for NRC and budget proposals for funders
• Maintain ‘fund accounting’ for all institutional donor donations, and any other donations that are earmarked
• Provide 6 monthly and annual reports to donors, as required
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
•Significant experience in non-for-profit grants administration and accounting
• Excellent administrative and accounting skills
•A flexible and adaptable approach to work
•Excellent interpersonal skills and high degree of professionalism
•Good organisation skills and ability to meet deadlines whilst being under pressure.
•Ability to work both independently and within a team
•Competence in MS Windows programs, e.g. word processing, Excel, accounting software
•Sense of initiative and responsibility
•Good interpersonal and communication skills
•Fluent in English
•Able to clearly communicate financial issues with non-finance people.
Desirable
• A qualification in accounting, e.g. first stage professional or accounting technician
• Experience of preparing a payroll
• Knowledge of charity sector accounting
Location:  London area
Time:  Part-time (3-4 days/week)
Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience
