Head of Research Access to Medicine Foundation


The Access to Medicine Foundation aims to expand its research scope to more global health issues like generics and vaccines. In light of this expansion, we are looking to increase the core research capabilities within the Foundation. Going forward we intend to develop our Access to Medicine Index methodology (through stakeholder consultations) and analyse data on various global health issues in-house, with the help of leading external firms in field research.
Furthermore, we wish to add to the publication of the Access to Medicine Index by strengthening the Foundation’s role as thought leader in between Indices, i.e. by regularly providing analysis/commentary on the debate surrounding access to medicine, reactions to news items and presentations at leading events.
The Foundation is currently seeking an experienced Global Health researcher to lead these initiatives in the new role of Head of Research.
Tasks
The Head of Research will be responsible for:
  • Refining of the methodology of the Access to Medicine Index and other related research projects;
  • Maintaining quality of the Index going forward;
  • Active involvement in designing and editing the Access to Medicine Foundation’s main publications;
  • Coordinating and discussing the methodology with our Expert Review Committee (ERC), Technical Sub-Committees (TSCs) , organising roundtables with stakeholders and the industry;
  • Authoritative representation to external audiences (companies, investors, ERC, TSCs, advisors), strengthening key relationships;
  • Presenting and participating in high-level seminars and (academic) conferences;
  • Managing and developing a team of 4-5 researchers;
  • Managing and coordinating external research partners;
  • Develop ideas for improving the Index and relevant Foundation research projects going forward; and
  • Acting as a member of the steering committee of the projects.
Profile
  • At least 7 years’ working experience in the field of Global Health;
  • Academic background in Global Health or equivalent, preferably at PhD level;
  • Author of academic publications in at least one of the key technical areas of access to medicine (Research, Pricing, Patents, Public Policy, Capacity Advancement);
  • Analytical skills to interpret and analyse large amounts of data;
  • Able to translate complex data into a clear and compelling narrative for various audiences;
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams with experts;
  • Preferably a good personal network within the Global Health community;
  • Preferably 5 or more years’ experience in a business/corporate context; 
  • Excellent consulting and communication skills;
  • Excellent writing skills (English);
  • Team player; and
  • Willing to go the extra mile.
