Senior Associate Global Health Strategies (GHS) Rio de Janeiro, Brazil


Global Health Strategies is seeking an intelligent, passionate, experienced health policy and advocacy professional with expertise in global health issues and a strong understanding of policy and the Brazilian public Health landscape. The Senior Associate will work closely with the Brazil Vice-President to support outreach, advocacy and partnership building activities on behalf of GHS’ clients. The Senior Associate is expected to have an excellent understanding of health issues, such as HIV/ AIDS, Tuberculosis, Vaccines and maternal and child health as well as a strategic vision. The Senior Associate is also expected to have a keen understanding of the global health landscape and of the key players in the field. Experience working on specific relevant issues such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Health R&D and immunization is considered a plus.

Advocacy and Program support:

GHS works with clients to advance global health priorities by developing in depth understanding of the health landscape, providing strategic advice and conducting advocacy activities. We work through a network of existing and new relationships with governments, policymakers, foundations, multilaterals, and NGOs. We help our clients expand their national and global support base, build internal and external capacity, and identify and maximize new relationships and opportunities. GHS also provides on the ground assistance to projects in the health field to ensure they have the necessary support and are implemented effectively.

The Senior Associate is expected to coordinate specific projects designed to build awareness and political support for key international health issues. This individual will also work to support ongoing projects in the health field led by GHS’ clients, working with local partners in the health research, policy making and government spheres.

The Senior Associate will help guide research and surveys on domestic and global health policies and programs to develop a strategic understanding of health issues and identify relevant opportunities. The Senior Associate will frequently be responsible for the production of policy analysis, reports and PowerPoint presentations. It is also expected that the Senior Associate will interact with clients and external stakeholders offering support to meetings, outreach trips and relationship building activities.

Communications/Media Relations:

GHS provides a full-spectrum of communications services for its clients and the Senior Associate should expect to help lead projects that incorporate significant communications and media relations components.

The Senior Associate is expected to possess or quickly develop a thorough understanding of the global health and science media landscape, and then work closely with GHS senior staff to develop high-level communications strategies for our clients. In addition, the Senior Associate may be responsible for the production and presentation of a range of communications materials, including press releases, FAQs, talking points, key messages, strategy memos and presentations.

Client Relations and Project Management Responsibilities:

The Senior Associate should provide project management support on specific client accounts. The Senior Associate is expected to have strong project and budget management skills, including the ability to track deliverables and manage budget expenditures, yearly activities and resource allocations, as well as report writing.

In addition, the Senior Associate is expected to assist senior GHS staff in the management and development of junior team members and external consultants. The Senior Associate is also expected to attend domestic and international meetings and events both with their clients and on GHS’ behalf.

Required Qualifications:

- Degree in public health, communications, international affairs with minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
- Excellent research, writing and editing skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment
- Strong initiative, and ability to proactively manage projects with minimal supervision
- Understanding of the national and global health landscape and key players
- Project and budget management experience
- Able to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Willing to travel internationally

Additional Qualifications:

- International work experience
- Understanding of/ interest in vaccines and infectious diseases
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and professional-level PowerPoint presentations
