DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Trainers
- Providing media consultancy/ training to local participants in accordance with IWPR project objectives.
- Preparing course outline and writing training manuals.
- Preparing training materials.
- Delivering training sessions in a local language or through translation.
- Editing material produced by participants in conjunction with editorial team in London .
- Advising on equipment purchases and other technical issues.
- As required, assisting in conducting general journalism workshops.
- Working closely with partners, NGOs and local journalists.
- Supervising local training staff.
- Providing reports on training carried out for submission to donors.
- Assisting in the development of further IWPR initiatives.
- Representing IWPR with donors, partner organizations and the wider international community.
- Ensuring that relevant procedures and policies are in place and are implemented.
Managers
- Implement programmes according to work plans and grant commitments, ensuring timely filing of narrative and expenditure reporting.
- Implement programmes according to budget and agreed targets for field, headquarters and overhead expenditure/cost recovery.
- Implement programme monitoring and evaluation processes according to grant commitments and IWPR strategy, including assessment against IWPR standards, grant requirements and key performance indicators.
- Ensure articles are commissioned from local journalists and edited to IWPR standards, under the direction of the London editorial eepartment.
- Ensure the training of local participants as part of IWPR’s projects.
- Ensure the management of local staff and offices.
- Oversee the writing and sending of monthly narrative and financial reports on all the activities of IWPR in country.
- Promote IWPR’s output and secure its republication in national and regional media, and keep up-to-date records of this in accordance with Programmes Department specifications.
- Represent IWPR to local donors, editors, NGOs, government and international organizations, and lead IWPR’s local fundraising activities.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Requirements
- Experience working as a media consultant in North Africa and the Middle East.
- Experience working on US- or EU-funded projects in the region.
- Working knowledge of Arabic.
- Applicants should have knowledge/experience at least three of the following areas:
- journalism training,
- media development,
- mentoring of media managers.
- developing civil society communication projects,
- social media campaigns,
- background working with youth, women’s based organisations
- providing legal-based support.
- working with US Government development grants
- launching or developing a newsrooms and news services in your home country and in other territories.
- recongnised commercial media experience, with plaudits or awards.
- evidence of media training skills for educational institutes, training departments within media organisations.
- evidence of completing training courses for trainers.
