Web Editor and Information Officer - European Schoolnet

European Schoolnet (EUN) is a consortium of 30 national education ministries, dedicated to transforming education through the use of online technology. One key area of activity is the promotion of safe, responsible use of such technology to young people. The successful candidate will join European Schoolnet which coordinates Insafe [http://www.saferinternet.org/], a European network of 30 National Centres comprising an awareness raising team, a helpline and a youth panel in each country.
The aim of the Web Editor and Information Officer is to support knowledge, information, good practice and resource sharing across the network through online and offline tools including portals, community platforms, social networking and online learning labs as well as through face-to-face and tele-meetings. It is also to disseminate information, advice and resources to teachers, parents, young people, policy-makers and industry in the 30 network countries but also in more than 70 other countries worldwide that participate annually in Safer Internet Day (SID, see www.saferinternetday.org).
The Web Editor and Information Officer will support the work of approx. 7 other Insafe coordination team members, liaising with National Centres, helping maintain and develop the team’s online presence and fostering interaction across the network. In particular, s/he will contribute to content and editorial work, and should bring innovative ideas to the post to ensure that our online presence evolves in line with emerging technology, and supports our overall focus on child protection.
Main duties of this position include:
  • Improving and updating website content and resource repositories in collaboration with the Insafe network and the broader SID networks.
  • Writing, editing and uploading copy, including the production of a monthly newsletter.
  • Developing and maintaining new online content, services and media assets (audio and video), working with designers and EUN’s communication and technical teams as appropriate.
  • Ensuring all online content meets style and usability guidelines, and is free from errors.
  • Contributing to and moderating online community tools; identifying and resolving website problems, and liaising with the technical team as necessary.
  • Liaising with working groups to define and organise all aspects of the Safer Internet Day and other campaigns, putting forward innovative, strategic ideas for their implementation and to increase reach and visibility.
  • Providing updates, training and documentation for the esafety team and wider network(s) on effective use of the online portal and community tools.
  • Contributing to meetings, reports, and communication strategies as a member of the esafety team, and liaising in particular with 6 national centres to ensure their participation and feedback.
  • Closely follow all requirements of the relevant work packages in the Insafe project, and draft relevant sections of progress report and annual report publication.
  • Other duties as may be necessary from time to time to support the overall objectives and dissemination activities of the Insafe project.
The ideal candidate should possess:
  • A minimum of two years experience in a similar position and preferably a Masters degree in a relevant field (e.g., communications, journalism, media, education).
  • An excellent command of English, both spoken and written. Additional languages would be an asset.
  • Experience of web publishing tools and content management systems (CMS, preferably Liferay and Wordpress), and familiarity with a range of office tools (Word, Excel etc).
  • Innovative ideas and experience in using Social media, Web 2.0 technologies, and audio and video resources.
  • An interest in researching and testing online tools.
  • A good work ethic, able to work well in teams and independently, sometimes to short deadlines.
  • An interest in online safety, child protection, education and emerging trends in technology use.
