World Vision Education in Emergencies Specialist


LOCATION OF POSITION IS OPEN INTERNATIONALLY
Use your knowledge of Education in Emergencies and experience in humanitarian and development work to be part of a leading organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children affected by natural and manmade disasters and living in poverty and injustice.
The Education in Emergencies Specialist will provide education in emergency leadership in large scale responses with deployments through the Humanitarian Operations - Global Technical team and in non-deployment times will focus on leading the organization to develop capacity and create and adapt resources for responding appropriately to Education in Emergencies as part of a broader team of Humanitarian Specialists as well as the Education and Life Skills team.
With a proven track record in a fast paced, complex and ideally global organization, you will have a desire, motivated to help others and model ethics in line with the foundations and ethos of the organization.
The successful candidate will:
• Further develop and ensure the WV Education in Emergencies Strategy remains current with industry thinking and integrates with both the HEA Strategy and the Education and Life Skills Strategy
• Develop an appropriate EIE capacity building strategy for World Vision International that ensures an increase in capacity and competencies in education in emergencies building on existing resources within the Education Cluster and INEE as well as WV tools.
• Establish and maintain strong networks with key stakeholders within World Vision International and external stakeholders
• Support evidence based research related to education in emergencies with other partners with a view to improving quality programming and creating an environment for increase resource acquisition for funding Education in Emergencies from within and outside WV.
Responsibilities Include:
• Leading Education in Emergencies responses in the first 90-180 days of a large scale emergency ensuring international and WV standards are met.
• Leading an Education in Emergencies interest group as part of the Education and Humanitarian Emergencies Communities of Practice within World Vision.
• Leading World Vision International’s engagement in the Education Cluster, INEE and other interagency initiatives that ensure World Vision contributes and remains current to the Education in Emergencies industry.
• Working with the Global Sector Specialists to develop integrated programming models/approaches and tools that improve services to children of all ages and their families.
REQUIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:
• Master’s or equivalent in education
• Working knowledge of Education in Emergencies Minimum Standards and active participation in interagency networks
• Ability to facilitate meetings well in a range of contexts
• Experience in working in multi-sectoral teams and ability to operate as a part of a virtual team.
• Capacity building experiences that include coaching, mentoring and training.
• Understanding of industry standards including Sphere, HAP, People in Aid, Red Cross Code of Conduct
• At least 5-7 years in humanitarian and development work in past decade with most in emergency responses
• Excellent writing and conversation ability in English and preferably with another international language such as French or Spanish.
