Dean, Simon Business School
Rochester, NY
Rochester, NY
The University of Rochester seeks an outstanding leader to be Dean of the William E. Simon School of Business. This is a critical time of transition for Simon, which built its reputation as one of the top business schools in the world through an empirical, economics-based approach that attracts world-class faculty who conduct groundbreaking research. The Dean will draw on these historic strengths, a core of talented faculty, top-quality students, and a re-energized network of alumni and friends to lead the School.
This deanship offers an opportunity to develop an ambitious and innovative strategy for a School seeking to re-establish its place among the nation’s most successful business schools. An increasingly competitive marketplace for business education, a challenging job market for students, and global changes in the business world will require the Dean to lead the School through a period of re-examination and bold actions. The next Dean will lead efforts to differentiate and strengthen the curriculum, attract and retain faculty of the highest caliber, improve the student experience, and develop strong relationships with alumni and the business community. S/he will build upon recent record enrollments, a historic capital campaign nearing completion, a strong University tradition of faculty collaborations that transcend department and school boundaries, and a host of new programs that have attracted a strong flow of applicants.
Simon enrolls approximately 600 students in its full-time MBA, MS, and PhD programs, including students in MS programs in New York City and its Executive MBA program in Switzerland. The School is partnering with the University’s undergraduate College in offering an undergraduate business program, building on an already successful and increasingly popular undergraduate business major. Simon’s endowment is approximately $89 million, and the School operates on an annual budget of about $45 million. Its faculty consists of 44 tenured and tenure track faculty along with 28 professionals and industry experts. Simon faculty and alumni are among the most influential scholars in their fields and the School is home to two of the top journals in Finance and Accounting.
The Simon Business School seeks an energetic, thoughtful, creative, and decisive Dean with experience in making critical strategic decisions, the judgment to take well-reasoned risks, and a proven ability to execute. The Dean will work with faculty and other key constituencies to develop and implement a strategy to strengthen Simon’s competitive position, building on the School’s decades-long reputation for excellence in research and shaping a framework to strengthen and build programs that serve areas of growing opportunity and enable students to acquire the essential skills that will make them highly attractive to employers. S/he will identify, recruit, support and retain the faculty of the future to ensure continuing excellence in scholarship and teaching. The Dean will engage all stakeholders in a sense of common purpose and excitement about the School’s future. S/he will develop a sustainable business model for the School.
