Green Budget Europe (GBE) is a Europe-wide platform of experts which works to promote dialogue and deliver progress on Environmental Fiscal Reform on the international stage and at EU level, as well as within individual European countries.
Green Budget Europe brings together representatives of business, international organisations, ministries, NGOs, political decision-makers, the research community and civil society to protect climate and environment. Our focus encompasses all market-based instruments (MBI) relating to environmental policy, including environmental taxation, reform of environmentally harmful subsidies, emissions trading, promotion of renewable energy and green public procurement.
GBE was founded in 2008 and is currently run as a project hosted by the Berlinbased German NGO Forum Ökologisch-Soziale Marktwirtschaft (FÖS)/Green Budget Germany (GBG).

Position overview

The GBE Team Assistant will be based in Brussels and will provide support to the GBE staff, based in Brussels, Edinburgh and Bonn, and coordinate closely with the Green Budget Germany office in Berlin.
Responsibilities include administrative and organizational support like correspondence, organizing events and meetings, managing expense reimbursements, coordinating travel, maintaining databases and internal reporting procedures.
She/he will assist in the implementation of projects, which includes preparing working documents, liaison with project partners, and ensuring proper financial and administrative management under the overall supervision of relevant GBE staff and the GBG accountant in Berlin.
The GBE Team Assistant will also be expected to manage a range of activities related to the organization’s PR and communication. This includes i.a. compiling and editing the GBE newsletter and website maintenance.

Key competencies

  • Completed vocational training required; university degree preferred;
  • The ideal candidate will have experience from similar type of work and be able to work autonomously and with maximum commitment;
  • Outstanding organisational skills and a strong capacity to track details are required, including the ability to prioritize work demands and tasks.

Administration and team support

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to understand organisational and office structures and work through administrative systems and processes;
  • Knowledge of and experience with accounting (Belgian system) an asset;
  • Flexibility to work as part of a team or independently to meet goals.

Event management

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating logistics for events and meetings and managing travel arrangements; Travel within Europe may be required from time to time.

Language skills

Fluency in written and spoken English and working knowledge in German required; French or Spanish, and other EU languages an asset.

Computer skills

Excellent IT skills; sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office expected; experience with TYPO3 or other content management systems an asset.

Contract details

  • The person appointed will work on a 60% basis;
  • The initial contract is for a period of one year; an extension is intended but dependent on successful funding acquisition;
  • The contract will start on 13 January 2014. The GBE Team Assistant is expected to spend 2-4 weeks in Green Budget Germany’s Berlin head office during the first three months;
  • Remuneration 1.800 EUR/month.
