SALARY:               *Ordinarily Resident (OR): R$ 34.036,00 p.a. (Starting salary) (Position Grade: FSN-5)
      *Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): US$ 31,963.00 p.a. (Starting salary) (Position Grade: FP-9)

The U.S. Consulate General in Recife is seeking individuals for the position of Visa Clerk/Secretary to work in the Consular Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Performs moderately difficult clerical and related work pertaining to a limited range of non-immigrant visa services. Provides administrative support to the Consular Section, including the Consular Chief.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
EDUCATION: Completion of secondary (high) school education is required.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in administrative/clerical and customer service functions is required.
LANGUAGE: Level III (Good Working Knowledge) in both speaking/reading English and Portuguese is required.  Language proficiency will be tested.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Of the host country government and passports;
  • Familiarity with host country geography, culture, customs and economy;
  • Of customer service techniques.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Typing Level II (30-59 wpm).
  • To use a calculator and to quickly learn the operations of the consular section;
  • To take initiative, follow instructions, work under pressure and with general guidance;
  • To exercise common sense and judgment when checking visa applications and information provided by applicants.
  • User’s knowledge of Microsoft Office package.
Testing may be conducted to determine qualifications.
SELECTION PROCESS
When fully qualified, U. S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specificallyaddress the required qualifications above in the application.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
  1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, continuity and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  4. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
