Background
The UNDP IICPSD offers a selected group of outstanding graduate-level students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to IICPSD's work as a center of excellence for private sector in development and inclusive markets.
IICPSD is seeking an enthusiastic graduate student as the communications intern. The communications intern will assist the IICPSD team
- in the design and implementation of a communications strategy for the website of the IICPSD,
- in the design and drafting of communications products which highlight the IICPSD's work,
- in the design and implementation of the IICPSD's Social Media Strategy,
- in the support in outreach-related activities of the office in order to increase the visibility of the center
The Programme operates under the rules and regulations of the UNDP Internship Policy.
UNDP internships are non-paid and that travel expenses are not covered.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of IICPSD and the Technical Specialist, the intern will undertake the following tasks:
- Draft blog posts and other communications materials publicizing the work of the IICPSD and other relevant UNDP research and analysis, for placement on/publication in relevant internal (UNDP) and necessary external websites and media;
- Assist with the writing of event summaries;
- Support in improving the content presentation of the IICPSD webpage according to the style and outline used by UNDP;
- Monitor other important media/web sites of regional and global significance (e.g., World Bank, IMF, EBRD, Asia Development Bank, The Economist, Wall Street Journal, Economist Intelligence Unit, BBC, RFE/RL—as well as those of universities, think tanks, consultancies, individuals) for relevant analytical and communications content pertaining to important (and other development) trends related to IICPSD's work;
- Increase the visivility of IICPSD and create awareness among relevant organizations of the center's ongoing activities.
- Create an effecient and manageable database/contact list of Turkish based as well international target audience for IICPSD publications and events.
- Provide administrative support on an as-needed basis;
- Other relevant tasks as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
Competencies
- Excellent written communication skills, should demonstrate evidence of superior research, analytical and writing abilities.
- Experience with websites, content development and graphic design is highly desirable. Experience with Wordpress is a definite advantage.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task;
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills;
- Ability to plan and organize his/her work, efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results;
- Openness to change and ability to receive/integrate feedback;
- Ability to work under pressure and stressful situations;
- Computer literacy and ability to effectively use relevant IT tools.
- Knowledge of the UN/UNDP and commitment to UN mission and UNDP mandate;
- Computer proficiency: MS Office; Statistical skills and ability to creatively represent information is an advantage
- Fluent in English with excellent reading and writing skills. Fluency in Turkish and knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
Required Skills and Experience
- Currently enrolled in a graduate-level degree programme in public relations, communication, journalism or other relevant/related field as a full-time student at the time of application to the internship;
- Available for working in the IICPSD for a period of 3-6 months. (Applicants available for six months are preferred. Applicants must state their availability).
- Have an appropriate communications background with proven previous engagement in social media initiatives; An understanding in economic or development issues is an advantage.
- Be comfortable working with data;
- Be able to work both independently and as part of a team; and
- Be willing to work within the framework of UNDP's internship policies
