Human Resources Assistant, Nairobi , Kenya

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) in the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). The post is located in the Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), UNON.
Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Communications and Outreach Unit, Human Resources Management Service (HRMS) and overall supervision of the Chief, Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), the incumbent will provide Information Technology (IT) support by performing the following duties:
(1) Designing and generating management reports and providing support to other databases used by HRMS staff by (a) supporting and training new and existing users; (b) supporting HR automation programme in collaboration with Information Communication and Technology Service (ICTS) and preparing progress reports; (c) automating needs assessment of HRMS and developing proposal for review by ICTS. (2) Providing support and maintaining HRMS personnel and people-related databases for reporting purposes by (a) ensuring that the information is correct; (b) designing standard and ad-hoc reports in cooperation with client offices; (c) printing and distributing standard IMIS Reporting Facility Application (IRFA) reports; (d) initiating data correction requests and carrying out data fixes; (e) uploading and downloading Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) Personnel Data scripts. (3) Processing IMIS data by:(a) processing index numbers; (b) maintaining Performance Appraisal System (PAS) records in IMIS and preparing PAS summaries; (c) providing e-PAS support to users on request. (4) Providing IMIS support by:(a) acting as the alternate focal point for IMIS support; (b) analyzing, resolving and providing guidance to users; (c) querying SYBASE tables and run tests in IMISDIAG to analyze problems; (d) participating in IMIS user training sessions; (e) assisting users with general computer related problems. (5) Providing back-up INSPIRA support and training new and existing users. (6) Performing any other duties that may be assigned.

Education
Completion of secondary school education; supplemental courses/technical certificate in information technology or other related field required.
Work Experience
Seven years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area. Familiarity with databases and reporting tools as well as working experience in the UN is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the UN is an advantage
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
