ITT/NCS Network and Communication Services
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The ITT department's main objective is to provide high quality and cost effective Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services which assist WHO in achieving its mission of health for all.
The objective of the NCS team is to deliver cost-effective, well managed and secure WHO ICT data networks (LAN and WAN), multi-media, voice (fixed and mobile), and video conferencing. The NCS team ensures that the technology infrastructure and services meet organizational requirements and user expectations. This is achieved through two units:
Architecture and Development:
  • Which designs, develops and manages a range of telecommunications infrastructure and partners, including the Geneva Campus LAN, the global WAN services, and telephony and multi-media technologies.
Network Operations Centre:
  • Which helps deliver quality services to the WHO organization by monitoring the status and performance of WHO global information systems and services, and providing first and second level support services with respect to ICT infrastructure.
Description of duties:
The responsibilities include the following (but not limited to):
  • Perform operational and scheduling duties for audio and video conference sessions, including liaising with end-point users for room procurement, reservations, testing and video call launching of point to point and multipoint sessions.
  • Update and maintain Online Conference Management System (interactive scheduling system and video conference user database).
  • Troubleshoot audio and video conference connection problems at the first level.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
  • Completion of secondary, technical or commercial school education.
Desirable:
  • Relevant professional training and/or certification.
Skills:
Essential:
  • Good knowledge of audio and video conference technologies, specifically on Polycom hardware;
  • Good knowledge and skills in the use of computers (Intel based workstations, scheduling software, IP addresses) and telecommunication technologies, including IP based telecommunications;
  • Ability to acquire an understanding, identify underlying issues or causes, and solve problems quickly;
  • Ability to communicate well with users from different regions.

Experience:
Essential:
At least 5 years of relevant experience in an IT environment including:
  • Audio and Video Conference Systems Management - intermediate level required;
  • ICT User Support - intermediate level required;
  • Experience in liaising and coordinating with third party audio and video conference service providers.
Desirable:
  • Working experience in an IT environment of a UN based organization;
  • Good knowledge of WHO HQ teleconferencing facilities.
Languages:
Essential:
  • Excellent knowledge of English both written and spoken.
Desirable:
  • Working knowledge of French an advantage.
