Purpose of the Position
Under the general supervision of the Corporate Alliances Manager (Research) overseeing corporate research and due diligence, the incumbent assists in implementing the research work plan including conducting research on companies, foundations and individuals, applying screening criteria to qualify potential partnerships, and ensuring robust knowledge management, including data quality assurance of the CRM database, managing select corporate engagement intranet and internet website pages, supporting the training/onboarding of new HQ, NatCom and country office users of the CRM database and the due diligence and proposal request processes, and additional support related to the corporate research and due diligence team.
Key Expected Results
With the expanding scope of corporate engagement across UNICEF, and PFP's unique role as the steward for corporate research and due diligence for the entire UNICEF organization, this post will contribute to managing the increasing workload and complexity of due diligence reviews and engagement recommendations. The incumbent will support the team with desk research and reporting quality, dissemination of UNICEF positions and policies on engagement with industry sectors and other sensitive matters, and training and capacity building of corporate engagement colleagues in National Committees, country offices and other HQ divisions. This will contribute to improved 1) staff understanding of corporate due diligence processes and principles, 2) compliance with DD/screening processes, 3) quality of due diligence reporting and 4) dissemination of best practices.
Key Accountabilities and Duties & Tasks
  • Support the corporate research and due diligence (CRDD) team in undertaking regular and ad- hoc corporate intelligence work related to UNICEF corporate engagement (CE).
  • Support the due diligence process for UNICEF funding and non-funding corporate engagement by conducting screening reviews as needed. Ensure that screenings are done in accordance with UNICEF guidelines and policies for working with the Business community.
    Support research and analysis of market information in the context of corporate engagement proposals review.
  • Respond to specific screening reviews queries from National Committees, country offices and select HQ divisions.
  • Conduct additional research on potential corporate partners and related issues such as market trends and internal trends for use in briefings, meetings, presentations, etc.
  • Identify relevant information (from both internal and external sources) on ethical business and sustainability issues and ensure prompt dissemination to corporate due diligence users and other colleagues concerned with CE work.
  • Lead content dissemination and communication related to corporate research and due diligence team's work
  • Develop content and upload information related to UNICEF corporate research and due diligence on the UNICEF Intranet, Internet, CRM and other relevant platforms.
    Support the team in harmonizing DD reports and ensuring quality of communication.
  • Support capacity building of countries for corporate research and due diligence through development of training materials and provision of training sessions
  • Support the development of materials for trainings and workshops by drafting presentations, briefing notes and other tools.
  • Assist the CRDD colleagues in development of content and execution of training/onboard sessions, development of factsheets, briefing notes and other meeting material.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
  • An advanced university degree or equivalent in Social or Political Sciences, Law, International Relations, Communication, Human Rights, market research or related technical field. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience in corporate social responsibility, market research, reporting or related fields.
  • Proficient knowledge of current theories and practices in socially responsible investing and social, environmental and governance issues is desired.
  • Proven experience in conducting or managing research and in preparing reports.
  • Fundraising/marketing communication experience in an international organization is an asset.
  • Experience with account or relationship management of bilateral corporate partnerships and/or corporate business development is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience in managing secondary research providers for corporate due diligence is an asset.
  • Familiarity with child rights and child rights programming is an asset.
  • Knowledge of UNICEF programmes and activities is important.
  • Fluency and proven written skills in English and working knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) required.
