The Principal Sector Specialist for Governance (PSS Governance) has a leadership role in the development of DFAT’s governance and broader aid policies. The PSS Governance provides technical advice to country programs and the department on governance, including political economy issues and on working in fragile and conflict affected states. The PSS Governance also leads the development of staff capability within DFAT on governance and related issues.
Duties of the Position:
To lead on expert technical and global best practice input to regional governance issues, particularly
  • public sector reform and transparent, evidence-based public policy decision-making,
  • solutions to private sector development constraints,
  • supporting economic growth that benefits the poor,
  • addressing issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • designing institutional reform programs that are sustainable, considerate of local culture and political environments and are partner government owned and led.
Applicants should be Australian citizens, however, consideration may be given to non-Australian citizens who can obtain an appropriate security clearance. The successful applicant will undergo a comprehensive security assessment. Employment in the department is dependent on gaining a valid security clearance. Loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment. DFAT employees are expected to adhere to the APS values and employment principles in terms of performance and standards of behaviour.
