Purpose of the Position
Under the overall guidance of the Corporate Alliances Manager, Children's Rights and Business, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the development of strategies and initiatives to promote children's rights in priority industry streams and thematic areas.
Key Expected Results
The incumbent will contribute to strengthening and supporting effective engagement in key industry, sustainability and CSR thematic work-streams to promote children's rights; including through engagement with business, platforms, and themes and by supporting policy advocacy work. As a result, children's rights are successfully mainstreamed in business sustainability and human rights work, and increased business effectively respects and supports children's rights.
Key Accountabilities and Duties & Tasks
  • Implementation of Industry Streams Strategy: Development and implementation of strategy for child rights engagement with priority industry streams. Identify and maximize opportunities for engagement on child rights with business in priority industry streams; including engagement through industry platforms and initiatives, government and civil society initiatives, appropriate themes and by engaging businesses who are industry leaders.
  • Capacity Building: Capacity building and coordination with national committees, country offices, PFP units and Programme division to support roll-out of industry engagement. Technically support the development of CSR/child rights and business training materials and packages adaptable to different audiences, including business, along with plans for rollout of capacity development on child rights and business for Regional/Country Offices, National Committees, as well as Headquarters colleagues. Deliver training as requested by the supervisor.
  • Research, Innovation and Knowledge Management: Facilitate knowledge capture and sharing on good practices related to child rights in the industry. Take the lead on research related initiatives with regards to child rights impacts of priority industry streams and themes, good practice by business and other stakeholders.
  • Advocacy, Networking and Partnership Building: Represent UNICEF in key forums and platforms to promote child rights agenda in the industry. Identify key partnerships, platforms themes d initiatives – industry, government led, to engage priority industries in regards to children's rights; and promote children's rights and business principles.
  • Corporate Outreach and Engagement: Corporate outreach, advocacy and engagement with strategic select in the industry; to pilot and demonstrate children's rights and business principles implementation as industry leaders.
  • Advisory Services and Technical Support: Provide technical support and advice regarding integration of child rights and business issues for different industries in UNICEF planning processes and approaches, by developing tools and lending support to Regional Offices, country offices and National Committees; as well as to business, government and other stakeholders.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
  • An advanced degree in Law, Social Sciences, Development or Business. A first level university degree in combination with two (2) years additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), child rights, social development, project administration, monitoring and evaluation, some at the international level.
  • A technical background in child rights or child protection, rights based approaches and at least 2 years of field experience with a focus on child rights or associated programming, including designing, monitoring and impact assessment of projects and programmes.
  • Experience of working within UNICEF, exposure to CSR work and of working with multi-stakeholder partnerships whether within Government, UN, and NGO or within the corporate sector would be additional assets.
  • Previous working experience in CSR or human rights and business linked to the ICT industry would be an asset.
  • Previous working experience from the private sector or consultancies related to CSR and human rights or children's rights would be an asset.
  • Fluency in English required. Working knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) highly desirable.
