Lobbying and Engagement Officer

Specific job objectives include:
Contribute to the development of lobbying and campaign plans and activities and their implementation.
Identify key issues and develop and implement appropriate approaches for key policy makers, institutions and other target audiences.
Facilitate effective packaging and use of appropriate communication for targeted audiences to influence policy decision making.
Facilitate and support the creation of issue-driven coalitions.
Facilitate public mobilisation processes for policy change purposes.
Develop and strengthen relationships with targeted audiences.
Coordinate with other outreach units to facilitate constituency access into inter-governmental forums.
Keep abreast of current and emerging communication technologies which facilitate lobbying, engagement and campaigning.
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, knowledge, skills and work related experience:
University degree in either international affairs, communications, human rights, international development, civil society issues, public policy, or related field.
A Masters degree or equivalent is in the above study field is desirable.
Demonstrated work experience required for this position includes campaigning, lobbying and policy engagement, stakeholder management in civil society, project management, advocacy and representing an organisation at various levels.
Knowledge in the following areas is required for this position: includes public policy, international affairs, development issues pertaining to civil society, communications tools, and advocacy theories and principles.
Job related skills required includes the following:negotiation, verbal and written communication, relationship building, analytical skills, presentation skills, time management, intercultural and interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure and to work with multiple agendas.
