Job Summary

The British Council is recruiting a Deputy Project Director for the East Malaysia English Language Teacher Development Project (ELTDP) in partnership with the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

The ELTDP is tasked with improving early primary English language teaching in under-performing state primary schools across Malaysian Borneo. This is being achieved through placing 120 teacher development mentors in clusters of largely rural schools, each responsible for the development and support of up to 30 local teachers. These mentors are in turn supported and managed by six project managers with academic backgrounds and responsibilities.

The overall job aim of the Deputy Project Director is to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running of English Language Teacher Development Project so that the project’s objectives are met. Responsible for management of a budget of GBP18m and line managing a team of seven managers, the position will suit someone with proven financial and people management skills with experience working in often challenging conditions.

This is a unique and challenging opportunity for the right candidate. Please note that while teaching qualifications are desirable, the key skills required for this position relate to project, finance and contract management.
