Scope of the Position

The Technical Specialist, Nutrition Research and Evaluation is a member of the NCoE team and reports to the Nutrition Director. Although the preferred location is Toronto, an Africa-based location will be considered. The Nutrition Research and Evaluation position will provide leadership for WVI’s nutrition operational research and evaluation of program effectiveness through management and coordination, technical support, advocacy and external partnering. The Position will coordinate design and implementation of operational research to support innovations for improving WV nutrition programming in contexts from emergency to development; document and evaluate existing models of operation for effectiveness; develop/assess systems in collaboration with WVI for surveillance, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition programs; review WVI-funded and managed projects related to nutrition outcomes; provide technical assistance, guidelines and tools for regional and country-lead nutrition operations research and program monitoring and evaluation; and represent WVI externally, advocating for improved programming based on results of research and evaluation. In addition, the Position will function as the NCoE point person for all nutrition issues for the Africa Region.

The Technical Specialist, Nutrition Research and Evaluation will work closely with other members of the NCOE and WVI research, monitoring and evaluation teams to develop and coordinate operational research, monitoring and evaluation systems, in order to improve effectiveness of programs in decreasing malnutrition. Strong collaboration with World Vision Canada’s Nutrition Team, the Global Health Team and other internal partners will also be essential to ensure alignment with program and field based priorities. Finally, the Sector Specialist will develop external partnership with other NGOs and institutions to advance collaborative and global efforts of addressing malnutrition.

Skills & Qualifications
• PhD in Nutrition or Nutritional Epidemiology, or MSc with extensive research experience in international nutrition;
• Must demonstrate understanding/experience in health/development beyond nutrition sector;
• Ability to liaise/network with external institutions in a professional manner;
• A minimum of 5 years experience in managing nutrition and health and development programs or projects in developing countries;
• Significant experience in international nutrition research & evaluation;
• Must be a problem solver, team player and results orientated;
• Oral and written communication skills, English; second language an asset;
• Ability to communicate cross-culturally and be sensitive to other cultures;
• Comfortable with domestic & international travel.
