MANAGER, EMERGENCY RESPONSE

ABOUT AMERICARES

AmeriCares is a nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization which provides immediate response to emergency medical needs and supports long-term health care programs. In times of epic disaster, daily struggle or civil conflict, AmeriCares restores health and saves lives by delivering donated medicines and medical supplies to people in need in the United States and around the world. Since our founding in 1982, AmeriCares has provided more than $10.5 billion in aid to nearly 150 countries.

SUMMARY

AmeriCares Emergency Response program delivers medical assistance and other relief to people affected by natural disasters, civil conflict and disease outbreaks around the world and in the United States. The organization responds to over 20 incidents each year, including major disasters such as the Japan earthquake-tsunami, Haiti earthquake, and Horn of Africa Famine, as well as regional and localized events that never make the headlines but devastate lives. AmeriCares emergency response activities stand on five programmatic pillars: organizational readiness, preparedness, proactive response, transition to reconstruction & long-term programming, and accountability & learning.

The Emergency Response (ER) Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing responses and for helping AmeriCares organize and prepare for relief efforts. The Manager will collaborate with members of the Emergency Response Working Group, which is comprised of staff from program units across the organization. In addition, the position works closely with the Post-Emergency Programs Unit which manages longer-term programming and reconstruction initiatives, and the Global Partnerships teams which deliver medical assistance on an on-going basis to partners in 40 countries, many of which are disaster prone. The ER Manager will be based in Stamford, CT with frequent deployment overseas and in the US.
