3125 - Senior Researcher: HIV/AIDS UNIT

Peromnes grade: 7

Note that this is a professional position.

Minimum qualification level: Doctorate

Number of years experience: 5


Core purpose:

To promote and sustain an environment that encourages, supports and that contributes to HIV/AIDS research on local, regional and global levels.

Key performance areas:

  • Conduct scholarly research
  • Disseminate research findings and publish in accredited journals
  • Establish and maintain national and international partnerships, collaborations and networks
  • Raise funds and leverage resources
  • Mentor emerging researchers
  • Contribute to policy research in support of South Africa's national HIV/AIDS priorities
  • Develop research proposals that are in line with the unit's research agenda

Core competencies:

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent management skills
  • Excellent research leadership skills to guide research from the beginning to the end
  • Knowledge of and experience in conducting research in HIV/AIDS
  • A sound grounding in research methods
  • A track record of raising funds for research
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Proven attributes of transparency, integrity and teamwork
  • Demonstrate project management and organisational skills
  • High level computer literacy

Additional information:

  • Doctoral Degre in a relevant discipline
  • Five years research-related experience
