The CNN Hong Kong Operations, Technical Director/Editor role is a unique and multi-skilled position. He/she is responsible for directing and technical directing all live programming from the Hong Kong studios. This also includes audio operation for internal, external, taped and live feeds. He/she works to demanding deadlines using linear and non-linear systems to edit feature and news projects for television and online. The TD/E uses various, proprietary and third party applications for the compressing/uncompressing and transfer of video assets across the Turner networks. The TD/E also down-links regional satellite feeds for both live events and scheduled newsgathering. The HK Operations dept also handles the studio camerawork during live programming, also lighting design for the main studio set, temporary freestanding positions and product photography. The TD/E is also responsible for the maintenance of the video library database including metadata entry and video compilation. Job Responsibilities: - Studio/Control Room: directing and technical directing of live studio and field production. This involves the operation of the vision mixer and audio board, clear communication with Atlanta directors, HK producers/cameraman and remote elements. - MCR: the downlinking of various regional sattelite feeds; live shots or video feeds - Editing: the FCP non-linear editing of PKGs, I/Vs, VOs and SOTs, Promos, full length feature shows, sponsored promos and vignettes, and other highly produced segments - Training: the TD will work with the Technical Supervisor in training new staff members. Supervision and guidance is constant due to the live nature of the shows and tight deadlines - Transferring all HK edited material to the Atlanta operations via the FTP servers and/or satellite paths - Maintenance and upkeep of the video library and its database including clipping completed edits, off-air keepers, in-house b-roll Required Qualifications : - University degree in media related course - Solid understanding of live television production - 3 years non-linear editing experience, FCP preferred - 2 years live TV / control room experience - Satellite down-linking and video-mixing experience will be a plus The candidate must work well under pressure and/or in a high stress environment. Must have solid understanding of current news stories and work well individually and within a team. Due to the nature of broadcast journalism, the candidate must be open to change in responsibilites and work schedules. An understanding and interest in technology is essential. Excellent command of English. The Newsroom can be a very high stress environment and any individual hired as a Technical Director/Editor needs to have a good balance of people skills as well as technical skills.
