Common Ground News Service Social Media Intern

Summary

Common Ground News Service (CGNews), www.commongroundnews.org, is seeking a part-time winter/spring intern to help manage their social media presence and contribute to online outreach efforts. The intern will report to the Program Coordinator for Partners in Humanity, SFCG’s program on Muslim-Western understanding. As an initiative of the international conflict transformation organization Search for Common Ground, CGNews produces articles that present constructive ideas, provide solutions, humanize the other, offer hope and/or shed light on a variety of issues, including but not limited to:

  • Muslims in the West
  • The Arab-Israeli conflict
  • Social and political events in Muslim-majority countries
  • Interfaith dialogue
  • Civil society activism, especially women’s activism

CGNews articles, written by authors from over 45 countries, have been republished over 30,000 times to date. And of the authors, nearly 50% have been women addressing Muslim-Western issues in recent years. Articles distributed by the news service have appeared in more than 3,000 media outlets around the world, including distributing partner McClatchy-Tribune Information Services, which partners with 450 global news outlets.




Responsibilities

The social media intern will be responsible for managing the social networking presence of CGNews, in addition to regularly contributing to the communications efforts of CGNews. The intern’s responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Making regular Facebook posts/tweets about CGNews articles and related content
  • Managing user interactions and feedback on social media sites
  • Basic website management and analytics, including uploading new website content
  • Staying current on news relevant to Muslim-Western relations and the Middle East/North Africa region
  • Helping with the development of new CGNews projects and outreach efforts



Minimum Qualifications

  • Personal experience with social networking platforms including Twitter and Facebook (experience with Hootsuite and/or managing social media for a company or an organization is a plus)
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Solid computer skills
  • Internet research experience
  • Creative and thorough approach to work
  • Interest in communications/public relations and Muslim-Western relations
