Funding and Advocacy Trainee Plan EU Office

Overall purpose of the job:

To support the funding and advocacy work of Plan EU Office by sharing information and supporting coordination of EU Plan Offices on funding, as well as engaging the EU on advocacy issues and raising Plan’s profile.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Support the Senior Advocacy Manager in the advocacy and policy work of our office;
  2. Support Plan Europe’s advocacy work regarding Plan’s global campaigns;
  3. Support Plan Europe’s advocacy work regarding the EU Multi-annual Financial Framework 2014-2020;
  4. Support the EU Funding Manager in the internal coordination work around EC funding;
  5. Contribute to the implementation of the grants strategy of the Plan EU Office.

General Description of Tasks

Under the supervision of and in collaboration with the EU Funding Manager to:

  • Represent Plan in NGO networks (VOICE’s DRR working group, HRDN, MFF taskforce of CONCORD);
  • Support Plan’s National Offices in their advocacy strategy on the MFF 2014-2020
  • Conduct research and analysis on the MFF;
  • Write articles for the monthly Plan EU internal newsletters;
  • Check on a daily basis for any new EC calls for proposals;
  • Analyse EC’s Annual Action Plans and thematic programmes;
  • Inform Plan’s Country Offices about upcoming funding opportunities;
  • Assist in the follow-up of information requested to/from Plan’s Country and National Offices regarding EC funding issues;
  • Contribute to the monthly EC grants and advocacy updates;
  • Support Plan staff when visiting the Brussels office for EC grants and advocacy reasons;
  • Maintain Plan’s Intranet and server updated.

Skill Requirements

  • A university degree or equivalent experience in political science, international development, communication or any other specific field relevant to Plan’s work;
  • A good understanding of the functioning of the European Union and development policy;
  • A very good command of both written and spoken English. A good knowledge of French is an advantage. Additional European languages are considered an asset;
  • Have a valid working permit for Belgium;
  • Team spirit and willingness to work in a multicultural team;
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to work to a high standard, manage stress while prioritising multiple tasks and meeting deadlines;
  • Fully computer literate; skilled and confident user of office applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and calendar applications.
