Applications are invited for an Instrument Software Engineer within the Ocean-Bottom Instrumentation Consortium (http://www.obs.ac.uk/), who provide seabed geophysical data acquisition services for international research groups and external clients. This post will support operation of the instrumentation at sea, and ongoing and future development programmes. This is a joint recruitment of a team some of whom will have their main base in Durham and some in Southampton; all team members will at times work based at the other site.

Applicants for this post should be qualified to at least Bachelors degree or equivalent level in a relevant discipline and be prepared and able to work at sea. In particular you will be required to pass an ENG1 Seafarer's Medical and obtain a Personal Sea Survival certificate within one month of commencement. Our expectation is that the postholder may spend up to 3 months per year at sea, and that once trained, the postholder may be expected to act as a lead engineer at sea.

You will be self-motivated and thorough in your approach to tasks. You can expect to work with both mechanical and electronic aspects of our instrumentation, and will be engaged in the full cycle of their operations from preparing instruments to go to sea to providing industry-formatted data and experiment reports to clients.
