Pathogen Informatics Opportunities

Opportunities on Pathogen Informatics in KAUST

Computational Biology Research Centre (CBRC)

A brand new research program on Pathogen Genomics has been initiated at the Computational Biology Research Centre (CBRC) in the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. The focus of this research program is to use high-throughput sequencing and other functional genomic technologies to understand the biology and population diversity of several important pathogens of significant impact on human and animal health. Within this program, a combination of high-throughput DNA/RNA sequencing technology platforms coupled with functional genomics and bioinformatics tools will be used to understand genetic make-up and dynamics of genome variation in a number of viral, bacterial, fungal and protozoan pathogens. Most of the projects will be undertaken in active collaboration with regional and international partners. KAUST has a state-of-art genomics facility to support research activities on large-scale high-throughput sequencing and microarrays, mass spectrometry- and high-end NMR-based research on proteomics, and cellular imaging facilities.

Up to 3 Bioinformatician positions are available at various levels (software developer, post-doc, research scientist) within this program. Applications are invited from experienced individuals with expertise on any of the following areas: (1) second generation sequencing data analysis and assembly, (2) evolutionary genomics and analysis of large volume genome variation datasets, (3) statistical genetics.

Please send your CV and names of 3 academic referees along with a statement of your research activities to pathogengenomics@kaust.edu.sa. For informal queries, please contact Dr Arnab Pain (arnab.pain@kaust.edu.sa).

The positions come with an internationally competitive salary and benefits package. The positions will remain open until filled.

KAUST is located on the Red Sea in Thuwal (80km north of Jeddah) in Saudi Arabia, is an international graduate-level research university dedicated to advancing science and technology through bold and collaborative research and to addressing challenges of regional and global significance.
