Position Reports to:
  • Manager Rail
  • Chief Technical Principal / Principal Track
Primary Purpose of Position:
  • Provide the range of track consultancy services to SMEC’s clients
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide the range of track consultancy services to SMEC’s clients including:
    - Developing alignment options
    - Feasibility and concept design
    - Detailed design and documentation
    - Procurement advise
    - Site support services
    - Investigations and other advisory services as required
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining SMEC’s track capability
  • Assist in technical leadership for the SMEC track team
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining technical standards, procedures, etc. for SMEC’s track team
  • Ensure the quality, consistency and timeliness of deliverables from SMEC’s track team
  • Assist in raising and maintaining SMEC’s profile in the industry for the delivery of track services
  • Assist in business development, proposals and tendering for track components of projects
  • Assist in the commercial and business management of SMEC’s track team
  • Strictly adhere to SMEC’s Business Management System (BMS)

Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Appropriate engineering degree/higher degree from accredited university/college
  • Minimum 4 plus (engineer) and 8 plus (senior engineer) years’ experience in track with a preference for experience in the delivery of consultancy track services
  • Experience in track engineering / design within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Some experience in technical leadership and mentoring
  • Some experience in developing and/or managing a track capability
  • Some track record in assisting with business development, proposals and tendering
  • Good client relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Some familiarity with delivering technical services within a commercial and business environment
