Description
Purpose of the job: Provide statistical and econometric assistance to economists of the Monetary and Economic Department and contribute to the computer automation of recurring tasks. The research topics are of an applied nature and form an integral part of the BIS’s work. She/he would fully participate in the work of the Departmental Research Support Division, work closely with the staff and execute assignments independently. Principal accountabilities: Provide statistical and econometric assistance to economists. Collect and process data for regular publications. Prepare publication-quality tables and graphs. Qualifications and skills required: Masters-level university qualification in economics, econometrics or statistics. Experience in statistics and applied econometrics desirable. Good understanding of statistical data processing and hands-on experience in applied mathematics. Good knowledge of information-processing techniques and databases, together with excellent programming and coding skills. Experience with Matlab would be an asset. Resourcefulness in identifying new sources of information. Good problem-solving skills. Willingness to learn new techniques and strong team spirit. Fluency in English. Knowledge of another major world language would be desirable. The BIS employs staff on both open-ended and fixed-term contracts. However, all new entrants are initially recruited on a fixed-term basis.
